IC 3231 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type S in the constellation Coma Berenices the northern sky . It is estimated to be 301 million light years from the Milky Way .
The galaxies IC 3186 , IC 3216 , IC 3221 , IC 3228 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by Max Wolf on March 23, 1903 .
