IC 3240 is an elliptical galaxy of Hubble type E4 in the constellation Virgo north of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 902 million light years from the Milky Way and approximately 135,000 light years in diameter.

In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4320 , NGC 4325 , IC 3236 , IC 3275 .

The object was discovered by Royal Harwood Frost on May 7, 1904 .
