IC 3255 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sbc in the constellation Virgo to the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 286 million light years from the Milky Way and about 35,000 light years in diameter. The galaxy is listed under catalog number VVC 649 as part of the Virgo Galaxy Cluster, but it is too far away for that.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4316 , NGC 4360 , IC 3236 , IC 3274 .
The object was discovered by Royal Harwood Frost on May 7, 1904 .
