IC 3259 is a barred spiral galaxy with extensive star formation from Hubble type SBdm in the constellation Virgo to the ecliptic . It is an estimated 59 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 30,000 light years in diameter . Under the designation VCC 667 , it is considered a member of the Virgo galaxy cluster .
In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4341 , NGC 4342 , NGC 4365 , IC 3267 and PGC 40338 .

The object was discovered by Guillaume Bigourdan on April 23, 1895 .
