IC 3224 is a compact dwarf galaxy of Hubble type C in the constellation Virgo on the ecliptic . It is an estimated 17 million light years from the Milky Way . It is listed as a member of the Virgo galaxy cluster under catalog number VCC 562 . In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4313 , NGC 4351 , IC 3208 , IC 3209 .
The object was discovered by Royal Harwood Frost on May 7, 1904 .
