Mammillaria jaliscana is a species of the genus Mammillaria in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet jaliscana means '(lat. Jaliscanus) from the location in the state of Jalisco (Mexico)'.

description

Mammillaria jaliscana forms dense cushions from the base. The spherical to short cylindrical, bright green shoots are 5 to 6 centimeters in diameter. The warts are tapered, cylindrical with a rounded tip and occasionally contain milky sap . The axillae are bare. The 5 to 14 reddish-brown central spines are 0.7 to 0.9 inches long and have dark tips. The 30 to 40 radial spines are white, more or less straight and 0.5 inches long.

The pink flowers are delicately scented and 2 centimeters in diameter. The blunt, club-like fruits are white to turbid pink and 0.8 centimeters in size. They contain fine, brownish-black seeds .

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Mammillaria jaliscana is common in the Mexican states of Jalisco , Michoacán, and Zacatecas .

It was first described in 1923 as Neomammillaria jaliscana by Nathaniel Lord Britton and Joseph Nelson Rose . Friedrich Bödeker placed the species in the genus Mammillaria in 1933 .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Vulnerable (VU) ", d. H. listed as endangered.
