Mammillaria magnifica is a species of the genus Mammillaria in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet magnifica means '(Latin magnificus) magnificent'.

description

Mammillaria magnifica grows in groups. The cylindrical shoots are up to 40 centimeters high and 7 to 9 centimeters in diameter. The warts are pyramidal or conical in shape and contain milky sap . The axillae are covered with white wool and bristles. The 4 to 5 central spines , sometimes up to eight, are strong, needle-like, yellowish brown to brown. The bottom one is hooked and up to 5.5 centimeters long, the others are shorter. The 18 to 24 radial spines are straight, glassy white to yellowish in color and 3 to 8 millimeters long.

The more or less purple flowers are 2 centimeters long and reach a diameter of 1.1 to 1.2 centimeters. The club-shaped fruits are pink with a green tip and 0.5 to 2.2 centimeters long. They contain brown seeds .

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Mammillaria magnifica is common in the Mexican state of Morelos . The originally stated origin from Puebla is incorrect and should prevent re-collection.

The first description was in 1967 by Francisco Guillermo Buchenau . A synonym is Mammillaria magnifica var. Minor G.Buchenau (1967).

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is called " Data Deficient (DD) ", i. H. with insufficient data.
