Mammillaria moelleriana is a species of the genus Mammillaria in the cactus family(Cactaceae).
description
Mammillaria moelleriana grows individually with flattened, spherical to cylindrical shoots , which are shiny green and up to 11 centimeters high and up to 10 centimeters in diameter. The cylindrical to egg-shaped warts are firm and do not contain any milky sap . The axillae are woolly at first, later naked. The 8 to 10 central spines are honey yellow to dark reddish brown with a partly yellow base. The lower ones are hooked, the upper ones shorter and straight. The 35 to 50 radial spines are needle-like, white with a yellow base and 7 to 9 millimeters long.
The flowers are white to yellow and have a pink central stripe. They are up to 2 inches long and have the same diameter. The greenish white, club-like fruits are up to 1.5 centimeters long. They contain black seeds .
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Mammillaria moelleriana is common in the Mexican states of Durango and Zacatecas .
It was first described in 1924 by Friedrich Bödeker . Synonyms are: Ebnerella moelleriana (Boed.) Buxb. (1951), Chilita moelleriana (Boed.) Buxb. (1954, nom. Inval. ICBN -Article 33.3), Escobariopsis moelleriana (Boed.) Doweld (2000) and Mammillaria cowperae Shurly (1959).
Mammillaria moelleriana is in the endangered Red List species the IUCN as " Least Concern (LC) ", d. H. classified as not endangered in nature.
