Mamoudou Maïdah

Mamoudou Maïdah (* 1924 in Tessaoua , † November 4, 2005 in Niamey ; also Mamadou Maïdah ) was a Nigerien teacher and politician.

Life

Mamoudou Maïdah belonged to the Hausa ethnic group . He went to school in Tessaoua, Maradi and Niamey. From 1942 to 1945 he attended the normal school in Katibougou and then worked for four months as a teacher in Tahoua . He then served until 1947 with the Tirailleurs sénégalais . In the following ten years Mamoudou Maïdah worked as a teacher in Tahoua, Madarounfa , Maradi, Gazaoua and Tibiri . He completed a three-month training course in Saint-Cloud in France in 1955 and became the school director in Tanout in 1958 .

On December 20, 1958, Mamoudou Maïdah was appointed Minister of Agriculture and Forestry in the government of Prime Minister Hamani Diori . He remained a member of the government until 1974 with changing departments. On December 31, 1960 he was Minister of Education, on June 25, 1963 Minister for the Economy in Rural Areas and on November 22, 1970 Minister of Foreign Affairs . From August 17, 1972, he held the position of Minister assigned to the Presidential Chancellery, and on September 26, 1972, he became Minister of Information.

On April 15, 1974, Hamani Diori was deposed by Seyni Kountché in a coup. Mamoudou Maïdah, like almost all ministers, was arrested and imprisoned in the Agadez military camp . He was only released in November 1987 under President Ali Saïbou . Then he founded and directed a school called Collège Lako in Maradi .
