Manfred Borutta (* 1960 in Stolberg (Rhineland) ) is a German nursing scientist (Dr. rer. Cur.) And professor at the Catholic University of North Rhine-Westphalia, Aachen department .

biography

Manfred Borutta grew up in the Aachen district . After completing his technical college entrance qualification , he initially trained as a cabinet maker and cabinet maker in Stolberg . This was followed by community service in a retirement home and training to become a state-approved geriatric nurse . He worked in this profession for a total of eight years. a. with old men with geriatric psychiatry and alcoholism in an old people's home in Aachen. At the age of 30 he switched to the training of geriatric nurses, and later to further training with nursing staff and managers.

Manfred Borutta has been involved in local politics for Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen since he was 23 (including a member of the council, member of the district council, chairman of the social and health committee in the Aachen district and member of various supervisory bodies of local hospitals and senior facilities). At the age of 40 he finished his local political work and began a part-time course to become a qualified nurse at the Catholic University in Cologne (then: KFH ) . This was followed by a master’s course in nursing science (at the Philosophical-Theological University in Vallendar ). At the age of 52, Borutta received her doctorate from the nursing science faculty of the Philosophical-Theological University of Vallendar. The title of his doctoral thesis is Generation of Knowledge and Appropriate Knowledge in Nursing. System-theoretical analysis of the normatively regulated amount of knowledge required by nursing science using the example of the introduction of expert standards in geriatric care. She was looked after by Heribert W. Gärtner (Vallendar / Cologne).

Manfred Borutta is now professor for gerontology in social work and nursing at the Catholic University of North Rhine-Westphalia, Department Aachen . He is the author of numerous specialist books on nursing science and nursing practice topics (including violence and restraint in nursing). In his lectures and publications he takes a critical look at the tension between nursing management - nursing practice - nursing science. From a power and system theory perspective, he deals with control illusions and the presumption of knowledge (such as the legal obligation to use expert standards in nursing) in nursing management and nursing practice. Borutta has been involved in several (EU-funded) projects in the field of nursing and nursing science.
