Manfred Bräuhäuser (born April 21, 1881 in Sindelfingen , † October 29, 1967 in Stuttgart ) was a German geologist .

Life

Bräuhäuser studied mathematics and natural sciences in Lausanne, Munich and Stuttgart and received his doctorate in geology under Ernst Koken in Tübingen in 1904 (on ice age deposits in the area around Kirchheim). Then he went to the geological survey of Württemberg (at that time a department of the State Statistical Office) in Stuttgart, which had just been founded under Adolf Sauer . In this context, he mapped in Württemberg and was involved in many geological maps on a scale of 1: 25,000. In 1919 he completed his habilitation at the TH Stuttgart and in 1923 he succeeded Sauer at the chair for mineralogy and as head of the geological survey. The first full-time head of the state office (state geologist) was not until 1939 Manfred Frank (1905–1976), who also taught geology at the TH Stuttgart from 1931 to 1944. However, Bräuhäuser once again temporarily headed the geological state office from 1946 to 1948. After the war he was involved in rebuilding the institute and teaching. In 1951 he retired. His successor as professor was Hermann Aldinger (1902–1993).

He was particularly concerned with the geology of the Pleistocene in Upper Swabia.

In 1950 he became an honorary member of the Upper Rhine Geological Association and in 1951 an honorary member of the Association for Patriotic Natural History in Württemberg .
