Manfred Briebach

Manfred Briebach (born June 23, 1950 ) is a former German soccer player. For 1. FC Magdeburg he played in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football . Briebach was a junior national player of the GDR.

Athletic career

Manfred Briebach played for the company sports club (BSG) Lok Güsten until 1966 . For the 1966/67 season he was delegated together with his brother Lothar to the football focus of the region, 1. FC Magdeburg. In 1967 he was included in the squad of the GDR junior national team and played four U-18 internationals from May to September 1967, in which he was used as a midfielder. In the men's area, Briebach mainly played in the second team of the FCM. When the FCM II was represented in the second-rate GDR league in 1969/70 , Briebach completed 22 of the 30 point games and was able to score five goals. In the league team, he only played three games in the 1969/70 season. Only once was he in the starting line-up as a midfielder for 67 minutes, in the other two games he only joined the team in the 46th and 66th minute. In the same season, FCM played in the European Cup Winners' Cup . In the first leg of the first round against MTK Budapest (1-0), Briebach was substituted on in the 57th minute.

In the summer of 1970 Briebach moved to the GDR league club BSG Lok Stendal . There he came in his first season 1970/71 in only nine point games in the first half of the season. In November 1970 he was drafted into military service for 18 months. After returning to Stendal, he played only four GDR league games in 1972/73. It was not until the 1974/75 season that he managed to become a regular player. With the exception of the 1976/77 season (9 games), he was able to defend this status until 1980. When Lok Stendal was only represented in the third-class regional league after relegation in 1977/78 , the German Sportecho mentioned Briebach as a midfielder who was decisive for the immediate resurgence. Briebach completed his last GDR league season for Lok Stendal in 1981/82, in which he was only called up five times. He then ended his career as a football player in the performance area. In his ten seasons for Lok Stendal in the GDR league, he had played 131 point games and scored eleven goals.
