While his brother, who had been playing in Stendal since 1970, developed into a regular player there in 1974/75, Lothar Briebach only played 21 times in 66 point games in this and the following seasons. In the 1977/78 season Lok Stendal had to play in the district league due to relegation, but achieved immediate promotion with the help of Lothar Briebach. In the new GDR league season he was only called up in four point games. In the season preview for 1978/79, the 30-year-old Briebach was still mentioned as a midfielder, but was no longer used. Later he was no longer mentioned in the Stendal squad lists.
