Manfred Geßner

Manfred Achim Geßner (born November 30, 1931 in Zwickau ; † October 31, 2016 ) was a German political scientist and politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

After attending secondary school and the Gifted High School in Berlin Gessner took a degree at the German University of policy on which he in 1959 with the exam to graduate political scientist and 1962 with the graduation to the Dr. phil. finished. He had been with the DGB federal executive committee since 1964 and in 1967 switched to the public service of the state government of North Rhine-Westphalia .

Political party

Geßner had been a member of the SPD since 1950. From 1962 to 1964 he was a consultant for political education in the SPD district of Palatinate .

MP

Geßner was a member of the German Bundestag from 1969 to 1983 . In parliament he represented the Düsseldorf III constituency from 1969 to 1980 and then the Düsseldorf II constituency until 1983 . He was also Vice-President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe from 1978 to 1981 and Vice-President of the Assembly of the Western European Union (WEU) from 1981 to 1983 .
