Manfred Geier (born March 25, 1943 in Troppau ) is a German Germanist and journalist .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1962, Geier studied German, political science and philosophy at the universities of Frankfurt , Berlin and Marburg until 1968 . There he worked from 1970 to 1979 as a research assistant and received his doctorate in 1973 under Gisbert Keseling with the thesis linguistic structuralism as language competence theory. On Noam Chomsky's "revolutionizing" linguistics . His habilitation took place with cultural-historical language analyzes in 1982 at the University of Marburg. From 1982 to 1987 he was an adjunct professor for linguistics at the University of Hanover. He stopped teaching in 1998.

Geier lives in Hamburg as a freelance academic journalist and author.
