When Barcelona was bombed in the Spanish Civil War in 1936 , the decision was made to move the most important pieces to Seva . Due to the war, the Museu Marítim did not open until January 18, 1941. Since 1999, parts of the museum have been open to the public for events and exhibitions. In 1985 the area of the museum was greatly expanded.
