Athletic career

When the GDR junior national team played their first international match on April 11, 1954, Manfred Hansen from Dresden was called up as the right runner . Hansen also played in another game within the youth tournament hosted by FIFA .

Hansen played his first point game in the men's area as a 19-year-old for SC Einheit Dresden in the 8th game of the league transition round, which was played in the fall of 1955 to transition to the calendar year rhythm. In the encounter that took place on October 30, 1955 at the ZSK Vorwärts Berlin , he was also used as the right runner. Hansen also played in midfield in the remaining five games of the transition round. In the 1956 season, Hansen was already a member of the SC Einheit Dresden team. Further called up as a midfielder, he played 22 of the 26 league games. On the 18th matchday he scored his first league goal in a 4-2 win over Motor Zwickau with the 2-0 intermediate result. Until the 1960 season, Hansen maintained his regular place as a midfielder in the Dresden league team, occasionally helping out in attack. In seasons from 1956 to 1960 he played 97 of the 130 point games played.

In 1958 he was in the victorious team of the GDR Cup final and was called up as the left runner in the 2-1 against SC Lok Leipzig . Also in 1958 he made a one-time guest appearance in the GDR youth national team . In the 1961/62 season (return to the spring-summer rhythm) the SC unit Dresden had to relegate after 13 years of membership in the league. Because of pleurisy Hansen was only able to play eleven of the 39 league games, so that he finally made 114 league appearances, in which he scored four goals.

Although only 26 years old, Manfred Hansen retired after relegation from the league team of SC Einheit Dresden. In the 1966/67 season he helped out again for three point games at FSVgg Lok Dresden , the successor team to the SC unit.
