Manfred Herrmann (born November 14, 1932 in Königszelt , † November 15, 1997 in Cologne ) was a German mathematician .

As a result of the Second World War, Herrmann moved to Halle and in 1951 began studying mathematics and physics at the Martin Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg . In 1958 he received his doctorate at this university with a thesis on birational contact transformations of the second order . In 1963 he completed his habilitation. From 1970 to 1978 he taught at the Humboldt University and in 1979 accepted an appointment at the University of Cologne.

Manfred Herrmann's research dealt with algebraic functions , singularity, equimultiplicity and the Cohen-Macaulay ring . Manfred Herrmann was co-founder and co-editor of the journal Contributions to Algebra and Geometry for volumes 1 (1971) to 6 (1977).
