Manfred Lange (born September 6, 1942 ) is a former German soccer goalkeeper. In 1969/70 he was part of the upper division squad of BSG Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt , but only played one upper division game.

Athletic career

When the company sports association (BSG) Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt was able to compete again in the second-rate GDR league after a two-year absence , the team for the 1961/62 season also included the 18-year-old goalkeeper Manfred Lange. In the league games played because of the change from the calendar year season to the summer-spring rhythm of 39, he was used 17 times. As early as 1962/63, Lange succeeded in replacing the previous goalkeeper Walter Reschke with 23 nominations in 26 league games. The duel with Reschke lasted until 1974, with Lange losing out with 26 league games less. One of the reasons for this was that Lange had to do an 18-month military service as a riot policeman between November 1964 and April 1966 and received a one-year ban in 1967 because he had made alternate contacts with the BSG Wismut Gera contrary to the statutes .

While Lange was the goalkeeper of Eisenhüttenstadt with 20 out of 30 league games in the 1968/69 promotion season, he was in goal in only one game in the league season. Instead, he was used in the GDR league team Stahl II in eleven of 30 league games. The league team did not achieve relegation, but instead of competing in the GDR league again in 1970/71, the BSG Stahl was transferred to the third-class district league Frankfurt (Oder) as both officials and players were accused of serious violations of the association's statutes.

After Lange had become district champion with Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt in 1971 and had also been successful with the team in the promotion games, he did not play in the GDR league in 1971/72. Also in 1972/73 he was only a substitute player with five appearances in the GDR league. It was not until the 1973/74 to 1975/76 seasons that he was a regular goalkeeper again with 41 appearances in 66 league games. When two younger goalkeepers, Rolf-Dieter Kahnt and Harald Leppin, joined the team in 1976 , Lange had to return to the second line. In the following three seasons he was only used in seven league games, after which he ended his career in competitive football in the summer of 1979 at the age of 37, in which he had a league game and 187 appearances in the GDR league.

From April 1982 to October 1984 Lange coached the GDR league team of BSG Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt.
