Walter Reschke (born March 28, 1942 ) is a former German football goalkeeper who was active in the GDR league , the top division of GDR football, for BSG Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt in 1969/70 .

Athletic career

Walter Reschke began to play organized football at the agricultural company sports community (BSG) Traktor in Neuzelle , Brandenburg . At the age of 14 he was accepted into the BSG Stahl Stalinstadt in 1956, where he finally managed to move up from the third-rate 2nd GDR league to the GDR league in 1960 with the men's team . Already in his first GDR league season, in which the BSG was renamed Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt, Reschke established himself as the goalkeeper with 20 appearances in 39 point games. The large number of games had become necessary in order to return from the calendar year season to the summer-spring rhythm of the game. After Reschke had lost his regular place to Manfred Lange , his future long-term competitor, in 1962/63 and only stood in goal in three league games, Reschke switched to the GDR league promoted BSG Stahl Riesa for one year in the 1963/64 season and was there in 17 of the 30 league games used. Then he took the regular place in the gate again at Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt. After only two point games in the first half of 1966, Reschke moved back to Stahl Riesa for the second half of the season, where he completed the remaining 15 league games. For the 1967/68 season he returned to Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt again, where he remained until the end of his competitive sports career.

In 1969 Reschke rose with the Eisenhüttenstädtern in the GDR league, but was only in ten of the 30 league games. In the league season 1969/70 he was the undisputed goalkeeper again with 22 appearances in the 26 point games. At the end of the season, the team belonged to the two league relegated. At the same time, the GDR Football Association accused the BSG of financial manipulation and downgraded the previous league team to the now third-class Frankfurt (Oder) district league .

With goalkeeper Reschke, Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt achieved immediate promotion to the GDR league in 1971. In the following two seasons, Reschke remained number one in goal. In 1972 the BSG steel league won the season and took part in the league promotion round. Reschke played all eight promotion games, but his team missed promotion as third among five candidates. In the summer of 1973, Walter Reschke went into his last GDR league season at the age of 31. Behind his eternal rival Manfred Lange, he was only reserve goalkeeper with seven appearances. After the end of the season he ended his career in the GDR-wide soccer game. He could look back on 22 upper league and 157 GDR league games.
