Manfred Piontek (born August 2, 1934 , † September 30, 2008 in Oberhausen ) was a German football player.

Career

Piontek played from 1953 to 1956 for FC Schalke 04 in the Oberliga West , one of five seasons as the highest German division.

For the club from Gelsenkirchen he played 24 point games in which he scored four goals. During his club membership, he was also used in three games in the DFB-Pokal competition. On January 2, 1955, he made his debut in the quarter-finals in a 2-0 victory over TuS Bremerhaven in 1893 . After he had also participated in the semifinals in the 2-1 victory over Kickers Offenbach , he was also used in the final. The final, held in Braunschweig on May 21, 1955 in front of 25,000 spectators, was lost 2: 3 with the winning goal scored in the 86th minute by Oswald Traub , player of Karlsruher SC . Schalke was attacked with Bernhard Klodt , Otto Laszig , Helmut Sadlowski , Piontek and Hans Krämer . When Schalke was able to win the runner-up in the 1955/56 season and thus moved into the finals of the German soccer championship, Piontek only played three championship games. He was not used in the final round.

From 1956 to 1959 he belonged to the Wuppertaler SV , for which he played the first two seasons in the Oberliga West, the third - due to relegation - in the 2nd Oberliga West . Team members from the Stadion am Zoo team included Horst Szymaniak , Alfred Beck , Erich Haase and Erich Probst .

From 1959 to 1961 he let his active football career end with KSV Hessen Kassel in the 2nd Oberliga Süd .

He was then still the player-coach of BSV 66 Oberhausen with which he rose to the A district league.
