Manfred Ragati

Manfred Ragati (born February 15, 1938 in Ochsenfurt ) was federal chairman of the workers' welfare organization .

Career

After studying law in Würzburg , he received his doctorate in 1969. From 1967 to 1969 he worked in the financial administration of Fürth and from 1970 to 1974 he was government director in the finance ministry of North Rhine-Westphalia . He was senior district director of the Herford district from 1975 to 1985 and from 1985 to 2001 he held the office of managing director of the Minden-Ravensberg GmbH ( Herford ) electricity company . Since then he has been working as a lawyer.

From 1983 to 2004 Manfred Ragati was chairman of the AWO district association Ostwestfalen-Lippe e. V. and from 1991 to the end of 2004 also Federal Chairman of the AWO. Since then he has been honorary chairman of the AWO federal association. His advocacy of work opportunities with additional expense allowances , so-called 1-euro jobs, brought him under fire at the end of 2004. At that time, he announced that the German welfare associations would create at least thirty thousand one-euro jobs for the long-term unemployed, which, not least, many long-term unemployed found themselves degrading.

Ragati held and still holds other offices and honorary offices. He is committed to art and architecture and, together with the American architect Frank O. Gehry, campaigned for the construction of the art and competence center MARTa Herford , which opened in May 2005.

In November 2004 he was awarded the Great Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for his outstanding services in the social field .

Manfred Ragati is married and has two children.
