Manfred Schmidt (politician, 1936)

Manfred Schmidt (born January 16, 1936 in Schwabhausen ; † August 21, 2016 ) was a German lawyer and politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

After graduating from high school in Eichstätt , Schmidt began studying law at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , which he completed with the first state examination in law. After passing the second state examination, he entered the civil service and worked as a public prosecutor at Munich I Regional Court from 1966 to 1969 . He then worked as a lawyer.

Political party

Schmidt joined the SPD in 1957. He was chairman of an SPD district association and a member of the board of the SPD Munich.

MP

Schmidt was a member of the German Bundestag from 1969 to 1990. He represented the constituency of Munich-Mitte there in the sixth, seventh, ninth and tenth electoral periods (1969–1976 and 1980–1987) . In the eighth and eleventh electoral terms (1976–1980 and 1987–1990) he entered parliament via the Bavarian state list . He was also a member of the European Parliament from 1973 to 1979 .
