Manfred Sorg

Manfred Sorg (born October 25, 1938 in Darmstadt ) is a German Protestant theologian and, as President, was the leading clergyman of the Evangelical Church of Westphalia in Bielefeld .

Career

Manfred Sorg studied Protestant theology at the Wuppertal Church University and at the Universities of Mainz and Münster . After passing his exams, Sorg took over a parish pastor in Hattingen in 1967 .

In 1974, Sorg became a lecturer at the Pedagogical Institute of the EKvW in Villigst , of which he was director from 1988 to 1995.

In 1996 he was elected President of the Evangelical Church of Westphalia - as successor to Hans-Martin Linnemann - and remained in this position until his retirement on February 29, 2004, when he passed it on to Alfred Buß .

Sorg has three children.

Other function

President Manfred Sorg was the successor to Church President Helge Klassohn and chairman of the Council of the Evangelical Church of the Union (EKU) until it was merged into the Union of Evangelical Churches (UEK) in 2003.
