Gerhard Brandt (theologian)
Gerhard Brandt (born August 4, 1921 in Breslau ; † February 16, 1999 in Düsseldorf ) was a German Protestant theologian .
Life
After graduating from high school and doing military service, Brandt studied Protestant theology in Heidelberg , Erlangen and Mainz . After the vicariate and research assistant at the Church University of Wuppertal , he was the state pastor for school week and primary school work for the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland . In 1959 he became a pastor in Bonn . In 1971 the Rhenish Synod elected him to the upper church council, in 1981 he was elected President of the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland, an office he held until his retirement in 1989.

- 1982: Honorary theological doctorate in Bonn
- 1984: Large Silver Medal of Honor with the Star for Services to the Republic of Austria
- 1987: Honorary doctorate in Theological Academy of Budapest
- 1989: Large Federal Cross of Merit with the Star of the Federal Republic of Germany
- 1990: Order of Merit of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate
