Joachim Rogge

Joachim Rogge (born December 3, 1929 in Halberstadt , † June 8, 2000 in Lutherstadt Wittenberg ) was a German Protestant theologian and was bishop of the Evangelical Church of Silesian Upper Lusatia .

life and work

Joachim Rogge studied Protestant theology at the Humboldt University in Berlin from 1948 to 1955 and completed his studies in 1955 with a doctorate. 1959 habilitation Rogge and was professor of ecclesiastical and doctrinal history on Sprachenkonvikt in Berlin, whose rector he was several times from the 1973rd From 1961 to 1974 he was also pastor in the parish “Zur Barmherzigkeit” in Berlin-Lichtenberg; then he was appointed to the senior church council and member of the church chancellery of the Evangelical Church of the Union (EKU). From 1977 Rogge was President of the EKU Church Chancellery and since 1972 Director of the Evangelical Research Academy .

On June 29, 1985, he was elected bishop of the Görlitz church area to succeed Hanns-Joachim Wollstadt . He was a participant in talks and negotiations between the church leadership and the GDR leadership as well as president of the Evangelical Main Bible Society. From 1985 to 1989 Rogge was registered as IM "Ferdinand" of the MfS , there was no clear public statement from him. In 1990 he was elected Chairman of the Council of the EKU (East). In 1994 he retired after reaching the age limit. His successor was Klaus Wollenweber .
