Life

Wollstadt grew up as the son of a pastor in Görlitz, studied theology in Berlin , Bethel and Heidelberg and became a pastor in Jänkendorf / Ullersdorf. From 1960 to 1965 he was pastor provincial for Inner Mission . In August 1965, he received his doctorate at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig Dr. theol. In the same year he was appointed head of the Martinshof Brothers and Nursing House in Rothenburg / Oberlausitz, a diaconal institution of the Görlitz Church, and at the same time head of the Diaconal work of the regional church. Wollstadt was a member of the Synod of the Evangelical Church in the GDR and a member of the Synod of the Evangelical Church of the Union (EKU). From 1970 to 1976 he was Vice President of the EKU Synod.

On October 1, 1979, he was introduced to the Evangelical Church of Görlitz as the successor to Bishop Hans-Joachim Fränkel and on October 13, 1979 in the Görlitz Peterskirche by the chairman of the GDR Church Federation, Albrecht Schönherr . When Fränkel, who was working as an IM for the State Security Service of the GDR, tried to involve Wollstadt in intelligence contacts, the latter turned to the church leadership in Berlin. He prayed to it during church leadership meetings, thus publicly deconspiring and becoming unusable as an IM. In 1985 Wollstadt retired. He was succeeded by Bishop Joachim Rogge .
