Manfred Spindler

Manfred Spindler (born July 10, 1934 ) is a former German soccer player. In 1951/52 he played for Stahl Altenburg in the GDR Oberliga , the highest league in GDR football .

Athletic career

Even before he was 18, Manfred Spindler played his first games in the GDR league. The player- coach Herbert Klemig of the company sports community (BSG) Stahl Altenburg used him for the first time on the third match day of the second half of the season 1951/52 as a center forward. Spindler scored his first upper ligator in the next game. By the end of the season he had 15 league games and seven goals, but his team had to relegate to the GDR league as penultimate among 19 teams . In the following four seasons Spindler was always a regular player as a striker in Altenburg and played 76 games out of 89 league games. In every season he was one of the top scorers and was the top scorer in 1953 and 1955 with 14 goals each for Altenburger, who had meanwhile been renamed BSG Motor. Spindler played his last ten games for BSG Motor Altenburg in the 1956 season, from which on five seasons were played according to the Soviet model in calendar year rhythm. He had come to 101 point games and 48 goals in six seasons.

Although only 22 years old, Spindler's football career then came to an end. After moving to the GDR league club Motor Mitte Magdeburg , he played ten of the 13 second round matches in 1956 and scored one goal. In 1957, however, he came only to two missions with the Magdeburg team and scored one more goal. During the season he moved to league competitor Motor Dessau , for whom he played nine league games and scored one goal. At the end of the season Dessau was relegated to the third class II. GDR league and Manfred Spindler did not return to higher class football.
