The Mangrovenliest ( Halcyon senegaloides ) is a kingfisher living on the coastal areas in East Africa .
features
The Mangrovenliest is about eight inches tall and has a completely red bill that is larger than that of the Senegalliest . The underside of the wings is white with a small black spot on the axillary feathers.
Occurrence
The mangrove reads mostly live no further than 20 km from the coast. Its distribution area is from about 3 ° north in Somalia to about 33 ° south in the eastern Cape Province , south to the Great Kei River and Great Fish River. It extends up to 150 kilometers inland in the Juba Valley , along the Zambezi to Sena in Mozambique and occasionally into the Kruger National Park .
habitat
The Mangrovenliest lives in forests and open land with forested rivers. Outside of the breeding season, it can be found in wooded estuaries, mangrove forests , wooded coasts and cultivated areas, thorn fields, light forests, city parks, fish tanks and gardens.
Subspecies
- H. s. senegaloides
- H. s. ranivorus - this southern subspecies has slightly longer wings than H. s. senegaloides , but with a narrower beak and sometimes a little light blue.
