Manica is a beer brand and brewery from Beira , Mozambique . It was founded there in 1959 and has been a brand of the Mozambican brewing group Cervejas de Moçambique since 1995 , which is in turn a SABMiller subsidiary.

41,000 hectoliters are filled each month, in bottles and cans. Draft beer has also been produced since 2011 .

history

The Manica brewery was founded in 1959 by a Portuguese entrepreneur as Fabrica de Cerveja da Beira and named after the local region, after which the neighboring province of Manica got its name.

The Manica beer was rarely sold outside the region, but it was very present here. During the times of the Portuguese colony , this beach town was a popular tourist destination in Mozambique, especially for the white farmers from nearby Rhodesia , who could easily come by road through the Manica region or the Mozambican railroad and contributed to local beer consumption.

After independence in 1975 and the proclamation of the People's Republic of Mozambique , the Manica brewery was nationalized, parallel to the breweries of Laurentina (Fabrica de Cervejas Reunidas and Fabrica de Cerveja Vitoria) and 2M beer (Fabrica de Cerveja 2M - Mac-Mahon) , all three located in Maputo.

After the end of the People's Republic in 1990 and the market economy restructuring in the country, the company Cervejas de Moçambique (CDM) was re-formed in 1995 , mainly from the Laurentina and Manica breweries, and then privatized. 49.1% and the economic management was taken over by the international brewing group SABMiller . Manica remained as a brand and is still brewed in Beira to this day.

In 2013, CDM expanded and modernized the Fábrica De Cerveja Manica in Beira. It reduced its energy consumption and CO 2 emissions and increased manica production from 35,000 to 41,000 hectoliters per month. 24,000 bottles can now be filled here every day.
