Manolo Domínguez Marín , known as Manolo Marín (* 1934 or 1936 in Seville ) is a Spanish Flamenco - Dancer and choreographer .

Life

Manolo Marín began as a self-taught , motivated by his admiration for Enrique el Cojo . He made his first professional appearances at the Tablao El Guajiro in Seville. He then danced in the company of Antonio Ruiz Soler . Eventually he founded his own company, with which he toured Europe and America.

  • 1992 in Yerma and in Lo flamenco ,
  • 1996 in Arsa y toma .

He directed with María Pagés

  • 1994 De la luna al viento ,
  • 1998 La Tirana . In this piece he paid homage to his role model Enrique el Cojo by limping into the scene at the beginning.
  • 2001 Flamenco republic .

Outstanding works with other artists were:

Manolo Marín also created Mi Carmen Flamenca for María Serrano ; the piece was premiered at the Deutsche Oper Berlin . He also worked with Carlos Gandolfo and the Centro Andaluz de Teatro for the piece La reina andaluza . For the television channel Canal Sur he worked on Buscando a Carmen and for French television on Sangre de la Primavera .

In 2001 he was awarded the Premio a la Enseñanza en el baile flamenco from the University of Jerez de la Frontera .

In November 2002 he wrote an Egyptian version of the Carmen myth for the Cairo Ballet. In 2005 he was artistic director of the Gala Flamenca in Japan, with Carmen Cortés , Merche Esmeralda and El Güito , among others . He was also the artistic director of the 2006 Gala Flamenca , which took place in London, Washington and New York. There, among others, Merche Esmeralda, Javier Barón , Soledad Barrio as well as Adela and Rafael Campallo performed .
