Manucher Ghorbanifar

Manucher Ghorbanifar or Manouchehr Ghorbanifar (* 1945 ), called Gorby , is an Iranian arms dealer and Intelligence - Informant .

Ghorbanifar is said to have passed on vital information about US plans. He was a former employee of the 8th bureau (counter-espionage) of the SAVAK under the leadership of General Hashemi and later spokesman for Prime Minister Shapur Bakhtiar . He was one of the main middlemen during the Iran-Contra affair . He was an informant for the United States National Security Council and the CIA during Ronald Reagan's presidency . After suspicions arose that Ghorbanifar was not a reliable source, CIA Director William Joseph Casey ordered three lie detector tests, all of which Ghorbanifar failed. As a result, a Burn Notice was written, Manucher Ghorbanifar was classified as unreliable and implausible and burned as an informant . From then on he was considered a liar , the National Security Advisor of the United States Robert McFarlane called Ghorbanifar

Despite these incidents, Ghorbanifar, who lives in Nice , France , was recruited as an informant under President George W. Bush and Dick Cheney during the occupation of Iraq from 2003-2011 .

Ghorbanifar, who worked for the Iranian secret service in addition to the CIA, is also said to have been an informant for the French intelligence service Direction Générale de la Sécurité Extérieure .
