Manuel González Galván

Manuel González Galván (born September 8, 1933 in Morelia , † December 20, 2004 in Mexico City ) was a Mexican architect who also worked as a painter and sculptor . He also dealt with the history of art and architecture in Michoacán and his hometown and published several books and specialist articles.

Manuel González Galván was born in the Barrio del Carmen district. First, he completed his school education in his native city. After that he received in Mexico City at the Jesuit school Instituto Patria the Bachillerato and took off in 1952 as a guest student at lectures of different fields of study at the Faculty of Philosophy and Humanities of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) in part. Due to his interest in art and architecture, he enrolled at the Instituto de Investigaciones Estéticas in 1960 , where he studied architecture until 1967. He also studied painting, sculpture and graphics at “La Esmeralda” .

His artistic work is primarily the result of passion and expresses his attachment to religion and his homeland. In 1955 he presented some of his work to the III. Hispano Americana de Arte Biennale in Barcelona , followed by further exhibition participations in Mexico City and Morelia. His numerous construction and restoration projects included the redesign of the main courtyard of the Palacio Nacional with the central fountain.

González Galván was a member of numerous associations and co-founder of the Sociedad Defensora del Tesoro Artístico de México AC and the Comisión Nacional de Arte Sacro . He has received several awards for his work. After two years of heart disease, he died in his home in Mexico City.
