Manuel Rauchholz

Manuel Rauchholz (born April 28, 1972 in Micronesia ) is a German-American theologian , ethnologist , associate professor for anthropology and intercultural studies at the "Trinity International University" in Deerfield (Illinois) and author .

Live and act

Manuel Rauchholz grew up as the son of the missionaries Roland and Dorothea Rauchholz with four siblings in Micronesia, Japan, Germany and the USA. After graduating from high school in Tokyo, he studied Protestant theology and ethnology in Heidelberg , Tübingen and Chicago . 2010 doctorate he in Heidelberg with his work on Towards an Understanding of adoption, person, and Emotion: The ideal norm and reality of life amongst the Chuukese of Micronesia for Ph.D. (summa cum laude). From 2012 to 2016 he worked as an assistant professor and researcher at the Institute for Anthropology at Heidelberg University. He deals with topics such as migration and integration, violence and conflict resolution strategies, intercultural ethics, human rights and legal systems. In 2011, he was a research fellow in anthropology at the Micronesian Area Research Center at the University of Guam while doing field research in Micronesia . In collaboration with the University of St. Andrews, Scotland (EU funded) and the National District Attorneys Association (Washington DC, USA), he conducted a research project on ethics and human trafficking in Oceania between 2012 and 2016. Afterwards he developed an interdisciplinary education and research project, the “Faichuk Educational Development and Research Project”, in cooperation with his consulting firm “Rauchholz International Consulting” with the government of the state of Chuuk in Micronesia, within the framework of which he was looking for opportunities, teachers for the environment to train that they find in the villages.

Since 2019 he has been Professor of Anthropology and Intercultural Studies at Trinity International University in Deerfield (Illinois) .

Rauchholz is a speaker at the Albrecht Bengel House in Tübingen and the author of numerous specialist articles .

Awards

  • 2011: Frobenius Research Prize of the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main for his study on the emotional effects of adoption in Chuuk with the title “Towards an Understanding of Adoption, Person, and Emotion. The Ideal Norm and Reality of Life amongst the Chuukese in Micronesia “(On the way to adoption, person and emotion. The ideal norm and reality of life among the Chuukese in Micronesia).

Private

Rauchholz is married to the theologian Mihamm Kim-Rauchholz . The couple have three daughters and live in Chicago .
