Manuel Sanguinetti (born March 22, 1917 in Montevideo , † December 18, 1990 in Cali , Colombia ) was a Uruguayan football player and coach.

Player career

society

Defensive player Sanguinetti is the father of soccer player Alberto Manuel Sanguinetti († 2003 in the USA). He was at least well in 1934 in the ranks of the youth team of the Montevideo-based club River Plate Montevideo . Coach Cesar Carrazale then appointed him to the club's first team. In this he played until 1939. From the Montevidean he moved to Argentina to CA Independiente that year . There he became Argentine champion in his first season alongside teammates like Vicente de la Mata , Arsenio Erico , Fernando Bello and Fermin Lecea , but was rarely used this season. In the following year, when he got a lot more working time, he was runner-up with the team. Overall, he completed during his engagement, dated to 1944, at Independiente, in which he was nicknamed "Mariscal", 85 games for the club. From 1945 to 1947 he was on the squad of Club Atlético Peñarol in the Primera División . In 1945 his club won the Uruguayan championship. However, Sanguinetti is not listed as a member of the core team during these three years. In 1948 he joined the Rampla Juniors . In 1951 he moved to America de Cali in Colombia, mediated by the Uruguayan referee Cativa Tolosa . For the Colombians he played alongside Rigoberto Felandro , Gerardo Arce and Edgar Mallarino, for example, until 1952 . That year a career station at Deportivo Cali followed . After returning to Uruguay in the meantime, his life took him back to Colombia for family reasons in 1954. He continued his career as a player and later coach at Cúcuta Deportivo . In 1958 he played there with his son. In 1960 he became a player-coach at his former employer Deportivo Cali. In 1962 he ended his active career - probably also in a role as a player-coach at América de Cali.

National team

Sanguinetti was a member of the senior national team of Uruguay , for which he completed five international matches between October 12, 1938 until his last appearance on February 12, 1939. He did not score an international goal. He was part of the Uruguayan squad at the South American Championship in 1939 . He also took part in the Copa Hector Gomez with Uruguay in 1938 .

successes

  • Argentine champion: 1939

Coaching career

At least 1958 he coached Cúcuta Deportivo. In 1960 he worked as a player- coach at Deportivo Cali, after he had replaced Julio Tocker in the coaching position. However, there was no success. In the following year he continued his coaching activity at América de Cali as the successor to Adolfo Pedernera . In 1966 he was a coach at Atlético Bucaramanga .
