Mao Anqing

Mao Anqing ( Chinese  毛 岸 青 , Pinyin Máo Ànqīng ; born November 2, 1923 in Shaoshan , Republic of China , † March 23, 2007 in Beijing , People's Republic of China ) was the last known surviving son of Mao Zedong and his second wife Yang Kaihui . His older brother Mao Anying died in the Korean War in 1950 .

Life

He was born in 1923 and from 1936 spent his time with his older brother Anying in Paris and then in Moscow. The two brothers returned to China in 1947, two years before the Communists' victory over the Kuomintang . He married the photographer Shao Hua (1938–2008) in 1960 . Their son Mao Xinyu (born January 17, 1970) became the youngest major general in the People's Liberation Army in 2009 . Anqing worked as a translator. After he developed schizophrenia , he lived a secluded life and was not politically active. He died on March 23, 2007.
