María Josefa Canellada

María Josefa Canellada (born November 12, 1912 in Infiesto ( Piloña ), † May 7, 1995 in Madrid ) was a Spanish author , Romanist and Hispanicist .

life and work

María Josefa Canellada Llavona received her doctorate in Madrid in 1943 under Dámaso Alonso with the work El bable de Cabranes (Madrid 1944, Oviedo 1996). In 1946 she married Alonso Zamora Vicente and taught from 1946 to 1948 at the same time as her husband at the University of Salamanca . From 1948 to 1952 she was in Buenos Aires with her husband. From 1952 to 1958 she taught again in Salamanca. She then took on various teaching positions at the Colegio de México , at Middlebury College , at the Complutense University of Madrid (1970–1983) and at the University of Copenhagen (1981). From 1979 to 1988 she worked on the 4th edition of the Diccionario manual of the Real Academia Española .

María Josefa Canellada also excelled as an author of children's books in Spanish and (for the first time) Asturian . An Asturian children's book award bears her name.

María Josefa Canellada became a member of the newly founded Academia de la Llingua Asturiana in 1981 and a corresponding member of the Real Academia Española in 1986 . A street was named after her in the municipality of Corvera .
