Mara Eggert (born August 1, 1938 in Rostock ) is a German photographer .

biography

Mara Eggert comes from a theater family. After fleeing the GDR in 1951, she came to Heidelberg , where she finished high school in 1955. There she then completed an apprenticeship as a photographer and later assisted Herbert Tobias in Berlin . At first she worked as a portrait photographer and eventually came to theater photography via music and film . She had her first commissions at the Nationaltheater Mannheim and the Städtische Bühnen Heidelberg .

In the early 1970s she came to the Schauspiel Frankfurt in the era of artistic director Peter Palitzsch . Over the decades, she also documented numerous productions at the Frankfurt Opera that were groundbreaking for modern music theater. There she worked with well-known directors such as Robert Wilson , Ruth Berghaus and Hans Neuenfels .

Since then she has worked on many major stages, such as the Stuttgart Opera , the Deutsche Oper Berlin , and the Salzburg Festival . She had lectureships at the University of Giessen and at the University of Design in Offenbach am Main . Her photographic work was purchased in 2004 by the Deutsches Theatermuseum in Munich. In the same year, Mara Eggert was awarded the Maria Sibylla Merian Prize of the State of Hesse .

Mara Eggert lives in Berlin. Their son, Herbert Heckmann, is the composer Moritz Eggert .
