Marany Meyer

Marany Meyer (born April 5, 1984 ) is a New Zealand chess player of South African origin. In August 2009 she switched from the South African to the New Zealand chess federation. She bears the title of International Women's Champion (WIM).

In 2000 she took part in the U20 World Cup in Rio de Janeiro with the South African junior national team. She played on the second board of the South African women's national team at the 2000 Chess Olympiad in Istanbul . At the Women's World Cup in New Delhi in 2000 , she prevailed in the first round against Nino Gurieli with 1.5: 0.5, but was eliminated in the second round with 0.5: 1.5 against Almira Scripcenco . At the U18 World Cup for girls in 2001 in Oropesa del Mar , Spain , with her tied fifth place, she had the best result of all South Africans since this competition was introduced (as of 2009). At the 2012 Chess Olympiad in Istanbul she played on the reserve board of the New Zealand women's national team and at the 2014 Chess Olympiad in Tromsø on the second board.

She has been playing club chess for the Wellington Chess Club since January 2008 . In South Africa she had the highest rating of all chess players there for more than ten years. Her Elo rating is 2031 (as of June 2019), which would put her in second place behind Layla Timergazi in the New Zealand women's Elo ranking, which she had led for a long time, but is considered inactive because she has been since the 2014 Chess Olympiad has not played an Elo-rated chess game. She reached her highest rating of 2161 in January 2002.
