The Marblehead Neck Wildlife Sanctuary is a 18 acres (7.3 hectares ) comprehensive protected area in Marblehead in the state of Massachusetts of the United States . It is administered by the Massachusetts Audubon Society .
Protected area
Located on a peninsula directly on Massachusetts Bay , the sanctuary is one of the smallest of the Audubon Society in terms of its area and, with swamps, wooded areas and dense shrubbery, offers especially birds such as warblers and night herons a retreat. It is also an important resting place for migratory birds in spring and autumn . 0.85 mi (1.4 km ) of hiking trails are available to visitors.
