Marc Dennis Anderson (born December 9, 1955 ) is an American percussionist and ethnomusicologist . He became internationally known in particular because of his collaboration with Steve Tibbetts .

Anderson has been involved in numerous Steve Tibbetts productions since 1980. He has also worked with artists such as Bradley Joseph , Butch Morris , Don Cherry , Max Roach , Taj Mahal , Minnesota Orchestra , Robert Fripp , David Sylvian , Choying Drolma and Altan . From 2009 to 2016 he was the percussionist for the Minneapolis -based Celtic rock band Boiled in Lead . Tom Lord has recorded 44 recordings in jazz alone since 1980; in total he is involved in more than 300 recordings.

Anderson studied traditional drumming in Ghana, China and Brazil. He was also instructed in percussion styles from India, the Middle East and Haiti by teachers in the USA. He is an associate professor in the anthropology department at Hamline University in Saint Paul, Minnesota .
