Marc Bauch (born July 17, 1973 in Hermeskeil ) is a German high school teacher and author on American studies and didactics . He is active in the Jugend forscht competition .

Life

After graduating from high school, Marc Bauch studied mathematics , American studies and computer science at the Saarland University , the University of Hagen and the University of Glasgow . After the first state examination in 1999, he was a research assistant for mathematics and American studies at Saarland University. In the 2002 academic year, Bauch taught 19th-century American theater and poetry at the University of California, Berkeley . He gave guest lectures on American theater in the 19th and 20th centuries at the University of Glasgow and did research stays in New York . Bauch passed the second state examination in 2004.

After his legal clerkship he worked at the Peter-Wust-Gymnasium in Wittlich. Marc Bauch has been a teacher for mathematics, computer science and English at the Hermeskeil grammar school since 2009. In 2002 he became a juror at the regional youth research competition in Bitburg and since 2008 he has also been a juror at the state competition in Ludwigshafen. 16 of his pupils became regional winners and five pupils became state winners in the field of mathematics / computer science. In 2009 he was appointed regional competition manager for Jugend forscht in Bitburg.

Bauch completed a doctoral degree in American Studies at the Saarland University, with the minor subjects English and mathematics. He received his doctorate in 2012 with a thesis on European influences in American musicals . His main research interests are American theater and musicals, American poetry and literature after the American Civil War (Literature of Reconstruction).

  • 2014: Teacher Award from MIT Club Germany: Scholarship for SEPT 2014 at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology
  • 2018: Klaus von Klitzing Prize for committed MINT teachers
