Marc Oliver Sommer (born May 20, 1962 in Hamburg ) is a German manager .

In addition to studying economics at the Institut d'études politiques de Paris from 1988 to 1992, Sommer trained as a conductor at the Conservatoire National de Paris . After completing his studies, he worked for Bertelsmann in various positions for 13 years. He was a member of the executive board of Direct Group Bertelsmann , a subsidiary of the international publishing and media group, as well as managing director of Groupe France Loisirs, which was taken over in 2001, and, from December 2004, of the Bertelsmann book club Der Club .

On January 1, 2006, Sommer moved to the management board of the KarstadtQuelle Group and also took over the management of the mail order division , which was organized in Primondo GmbH and to which u. a. the Quelle GmbH and the neckermann.de GmbH belonged. In April 2008, Sommer became deputy chairman of the board of the group now operating under the name Arcandor. When Arcandor AG went bankrupt in June 2009, Sommer was the only member of the management board to remain with the group and until June 2010 was responsible for the Primondo shipping division with Quelle. In connection with investigations and proceedings due to excessive bonus payments at Arcandor, there were also reports of high salaries and special bonuses for the summer.

Sommer has been working as a senior advisor in the private equity sector since January 2010 . In 2012 he became managing partner of Hess Natur GmbH in Butzbach. There he switched back to the advisory board in March 2016. In addition, Marc Sommer has been a member of the supervisory board of Thomas Cook AG and a member of the board of trustees of the Society of Friends of the Bayreuth Richard Wagner Festival since 2007.

He is married and has 4 children.
