Marcell Pongó (born March 3, 1997 in Baja ) is a Hungarian basketball player . He is in the squad of the Nürnberg Falcon BC .

career

During the 2014/15 season, Pongó made his debut in Hungary's first division wearing the PVSK Pécs jersey . He also played in the club's youth department.

Through his compatriot Zoltan Nagy, who worked as a trainer in Ulm, Pongó came into contact with those responsible at ratiopharm ulm and moved to the Danube for the 2015/16 season. In his first year in Germany, Pongó played for the Ulm youth development teams in the 2nd Bundesliga ProB ( Weißenhorn Youngstars ) and in the second regional league, and he also strengthened Ulm's team in the youth basketball Bundesliga .

For the 2016/17 season he made the leap into the extended squad of the ratiopharm ulm first division team and made his first appearance in the basketball Bundesliga on April 29, 2017 in a duel with Ludwigsburg . However, Pongó mainly played for Weißenhorn and won the ProB championship title with the team, which also meant promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga ProA . The Hungarian contributed an average of 11.6 points, 6.2 assists, 4.1 rebounds and 2.4 ball wins in 32 season appearances to this triumph . In the 2017/18 season he missed relegation in the ProA with the OrangeAcademy (the team's new name after moving from Weißenfels to Ulm). During the season, Pongó scored an average of twelve points in 29 games as the team's second best scorer and statistically gave 5.8 assists per match.

At the beginning of June 2018 he was signed by the Nürnberg Falcons BC (2nd Bundesliga ProA). He made it to the Bundesliga as runner-up with the Franks and was involved in this success over the course of the 2018/19 season with averages of 8.8 points, 5.5 assists and 3.2 rebounds per match.

National team

As a member of the Hungarian national junior team, Pongó took part in the U16 European basketball championships 2013 (B group), the U18 European basketball championships in 2014 and 2015 (each B group) and the U20 basketball -European Championship 2016.
