Marcelo Tosatti Worms Becker (* 27. May 1982 in Curitiba , Brazil ) is a Linux kernel - programmers . From version 2.4.16 (November 26, 2001) to version 2.4.33 (July 2006) he was responsible for the maintenance of the kernel versions 2.4.x, which he then handed over to Willy Tarreau.

Life

Tosatti grew up in Curitiba, Brazil. At the age of twelve, when his older brother Nei began assembling and selling computer systems, he too began to take an interest in computers. He dealt with DOS and BASIC and began to be interested in C a little later . He acquired the language -taught by trial and error and reading various books.

In 1995/1996, at the age of 14, he had access to the Internet for the first time and learned about Linux . He ordered Linux FT , replacing some Windows NT - server of a local ISP . A short time later he received an offer from Conectiva and worked there for six years, where he first became interested in kernel development. He fixed some bugs in versions 2.2 / 2.3 and managed the Conectiva kernel RPMs .

When version 2.4 was ready for release, it was widely believed that Linus Torvalds would hand over the post of maintainer to Alan Cox . But since Cox decided to withdraw from the administration, he proposed Tosatti as his successor. Tosatti was initially highly controversial as many believed that at 18 he was still too young to take on such a challenge. Thanks to the great support of Torvalds and Cox, Tosatti was able to maintain his position.

In 2003 he met his girlfriend Suzana and moved to Porto Alegre , where he worked for the Cyclades Corporation . He has been with Red Hat since May 1, 2006 .
