Marcia Pally
Marcia Pally is an American linguist and cultural scientist and columnist living in New York City , NY, USA.
Career
Pally received her doctorate in educational science from New York University in 1995 with the dissertation Lingua Franca: film criticism as a content-based ESL Text for the development of critical thinking .
Pally is a visiting lecturer at New York University and teaches Multilingual Multicultural Studies; She also teaches at Fordham University and is visiting professor at the Theological Faculty of Humboldt University in Berlin. Her research areas are culture, religion, politics as well as culture and language. She is the author of several books. Since her book publication in 2011 ("The New Evangelicals" Eerdmans Publishing; Berlin University Press, 2010) she has been working on completing a research paper on theologies of relationality , which was published in 2016 Commonwealth and Covenant: Economics, Politics, and Theologies of Relationality .
Pally received the Mercator Professorship from the German Research Association (DFG, 2012, 2013) and her visiting professorships were funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD, 2014, Humanities). She is also one of the recipients of a DFG research grant that is dedicated to comparing American and German evangelicals with regard to their political ethics and the respective manifestations of their activism. In 2007 and 2010 she was a fellow at the Wissenschaftskolleg in Berlin and a speaker at the World Economic Forum 2010. Pally is a fellow at the New York Institute for the Humanities .
She has written for publications such as Village Voice , The Nation , Film Comment, Cinéaste, Index on Censorship, Z Papers and the online magazine Perlentaucher . Furthermore for Die Zeit , Süddeutsche Zeitung , Merkur, the daily newspaper , Berliner Zeitung , Tagesspiegel , Cicero , Weltwoche , the Frankfurter Rundschau and the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung .
