Marco Beasley

Marco Beasley (* 1957 in Naples ) is an Italian music historian and tenor . He has specialized in the interpretation of the music of the Italian early baroque .

Life

Marco Beasley grew up as the son of an English father and an Italian mother in Naples, where he found access to traditional Neapolitan folk music and early music at a very early age, and where his singing talent was soon discovered.

In the early 1980s he studied the performing arts , particularly vocal music of the Renaissance and Baroque periods, as well as the musical literature of the 15th and 16th centuries at the University of Bologna . He paid particular attention to the familiar music of southern Italy and the early musical principles of reciting singing and secular polyphony around the Florentine Camerata .

The vocal training with Cathy Berberian had a formative impression on him . Together with the musicians Stefano Rocco and Guido Morini , he founded the Ensemble Accordone in 1984 , which is primarily dedicated to performing early music, but also includes compositions from the 19th century and modern. He has also played with artists such as Christina Pluhar , the Ensemble L'Arpeggiata and the Nederlands Blazers Ensemble.

Beasley's way of performing is characterized by great liveliness, a deep sensitivity for the sound, a wide range of distinctive timbres and an enormous stage presence.
