Marko Schröder (born May 18, 1966 ) is a former German soccer player . In the Bayer 04 Leverkusen jersey , he made eight Bundesliga appearances between 1989 and 1992 and scored one goal.
Career
The striker first played for TuS Roland Bürrig from Leverkusen, then at VfL Leverkusen , before he was signed by Bayer 04 Leverkusen in 1986. There he was mainly used for the amateur team in the Oberliga Nordrhein . On May 12, 1990 in the 1: 3 against Werder Bremen , Schröder was first used in the professional squad by coach Jürgen Gelsdorf . In the league season 1990/91 the attacker was top scorer with 19 goals. In the winter of 1992 he moved to the 2nd Bundesliga for FC Remscheid for half a year , for which he played seven games. For the 1992/93 season Marko Schröder moved to second division rivals SC Fortuna Cologne . In the league club FV Bad Honnef he was again top scorer of the Oberliga Nordrhein in the 1993/94 season with 23 goals. Thereupon he committed in the summer of 1994 Oberliga competitor Rot-Weiß Oberhausen , whom Schröder (25 goals) shot together with striker Holger Gaissmayer (26 goals) to win the title and rise to the Regionalliga West / Southwest . After two years and 47 games (31 goals) he left RWO in 1996. Schröder was playing for SCB Preußen Köln when he was diagnosed with lymphatic cancer in 1998 . He survived the illness and returned to his hometown club VfL Leverkusen, for which he was active until 2004. With the club he rose again in 2002/03 from the regional league to the association league .
As part of the so-called traditional team, he is still occasionally active for Bayer 04 Leverkusen today.
