Marcus Kaiser

Marcus Kaiser (* 1966 in Stuttgart ) is a German photographer and media artist .

Life

Kaiser studied photography with Gottfried Jäger and sociology with Niklas Luhmann in Bielefeld and then postgraduate media art with Thomas Struth, Hans Belting and Boris Groys at the University of Design at the ZKM in Karlsruhe. Since 2002 Kaiser has also worked as a university lecturer at various universities and art colleges. From 2002 to 2010 he researched and taught at the Caspar David Friedrich Institute at the University of Greifswald . From 2007 to 2008 he was a lecturer at the Anhalt University of Applied Sciences in Dessau, and in 2011 at the Dresden University of Fine Arts. In 2013 he taught at the Queensland College of Art at Griffith University in Brisbane. Since 2012 he has been a lecturer in photography and image media at the Würzburg Design Faculty.

A central aspect of his work is the investigation of the medium of photography for its function and significance for our cultural memory . With the work "Mauerblicke / Wall Views" (1990) he combines historical documentation with an analysis of photography.
