Marcus Porcius Cato (Consul 118 BC)
Marcus Porcius Cato († 118 BC ) was a member of the Roman plebeian family of the Porcians and 118 BC. Chr. Consul .
Marcus Porcius Cato was the older son of Marcus Porcius Cato Licinianus and a grandson of the well-known conservative Roman statesman Marcus Porcius Cato Censorius . Nothing is known about his early life or the first stages of his cursus honorum . No later than 121 BC BC he held the praetur . Three years later, 118 BC. BC, he rose to the highest office of the state, with his fellow consul Quintus Marcius Rex . He went to Africa. Presumably he was given the task of mediating disputes between the heirs of the Numidian ruler Micipsa , son of Massinissa . However, he died in his consulate.
Marcus Porcius Cato was rated as a powerful speaker. Several of his speeches survived for some time after his death.
